Sorry robber repeatedly targets Lyon Township gas station

LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - It is a general rule of thumb that workers at the Mobil Gas Station at I-96 and Kent Lake Road in Lyon Township appreciate their regulars, but there is always an exception to such a rule.

On December 20 and 28 they say a man wearing a dark hoody walked into the store.  He appears to have a gun.  He asks for Newport Cigarettes and cash.  Before leaving the scene of his robbery he apologizes.

"He says he is sorry, but he has bills to pay," said station manager Todd Keyser.

Keyser showed 7 Action News surveillance video of the thief.  He says he hopes it helps solve the investigation.

The crimes have left workers at the station afraid.  In one video you see a customer unknowingly interrupt the armed robbery to make a purchase.  The armed robber glances nervously at that customer.  Workers fear next time he commits a crime they or a customer will end up hurt.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crime.  Investigators say the suspect was seen leaving the gas station towards the Kensington Place Mobile Home Park.
