Surveillance video shown in court of man accused of shooting at teen in Rochester Hills

Shocking video has been revealed in the trial of a Rochester Hills man accused of shooting at a 14-year-old boy. 

Fifty-three-year-old Jeffrey Zeigler is accused of going after the teen who was asking for directions.

It's the surveillance video jurors wanted to see: a video showing what happened that day back in April when a 14-year-old boy knocked on a door asking for directions in Rochester Hills and getting lost.

Today deputies took the stand to describe what happens that day.

“He saw someone come down the stairs with a shotgun,” one officer testified. “While he was running he heard a distinct sound of a gun being fired.”

The video appears to show the 14-year-old boy talking to someone at the door, then seconds later turning and running away

Zeigler is charged with assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm after the 14-year-old boy knocks on his door asking for directions.  

A detective describes what Zeigler told him.

“He goes outside. He steps in the brick pavers fallback and somehow his finger goes from the front of the trigger guard to the trigger, and a round goes off,” he testified.

The shotgun allegedly used that day also presented in court.  An Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy describing the weapon used.

“I believe there was six live in the magazine well which is this tube here, it would of had six more rounds in here,” he says.

The trial will continue Thursday morning.

Zeigler was given a $50,000 bond was ordered to wear a GPS tether. 

If found guilty he faces up to life in prison.
