Troy police say three men were arrested for a smash-and-grab at Saks at the Somerset Collection.
According to police, they received a 911 call about shots being fired at Oakland Mall. Police say it was the only call received, but the caller did not cooperate.
Police sent two officers to the mall to check it out, but just eight minute later at 7:25 p.m., an employee at Saks Fifth Avenue at the Somerset Collection called about a robbery.
That's when police figured out the first 911 call involving Oakland Mall was used as a "ruse" to draw officers away from Somerset.
Police say two suspects went up to the Cartier watch counter at Saks. That's when one suspect pulled a sledge hammer out of his pants and smashed the display case. When a security officer approached him, the suspect started swinging the hammer at the officer and hit him in the arm. The other suspect grabbed three watches and then they took off.
One suspect was taken into custody by Somerset and Saks security officers as he ran across Big Beaver.
Two other suspects were arrested near Bemis Elementary School after residents in a subdivision located the vehicle they were driving.
Police say the vehicle was reported stolen out of Detroit, and several of the stolen watches were recovered.
