TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Troy Police Department says 20 police officers have been disciplined after breaking into a locked pantry inside the Troy Fire Department.

According to Lieutenant Josh Jones with the Troy Police Department, the confusion started when snacks and food utensils were put into a locked pantry after fire station four was remodeled. In the past these items were open to police officers.

“After the station opened back up our officers felt like they were still allowed to enter this locked room which was incorrect and they shouldn’t have made that determination,” said Lt. Jones. r

Lt. Jones says the issue is not so much about snacks being taken, but the officers breaking into a locked pantry.

“The scoop of our investigation, what was incorrect in our mind is they entered a locked room without proper access- they shouldn’t have done that,” said Lt. Jones.

An internal investigation revealed 20 out of 100 law enforcement officers broke into the pantry area. They were given low level written reprimands, which will stay on their record and could be brought up again in decided any future punishment for infractions.
