Waterford Township residents speak up on pit bull ban after Diggy's owner gets ticket

Diggy, the viral sensation dog with a smiling face, is making waves on the internet and making waves in Waterford Township.

Monday night, dozens of residents spoke during the public comment section of the meeting, against the township’s ban on pit bulls.

It’s all started because of Diggy and the smiling picture of him and his owner on the internet.

He was recently adopted. In article, after Diggy’s adoption, it was noted that he was a pit bull mix, but Diggy’s owners say he is an American Bulldog.

Monday, his owner received a ticket from the Waterford Township Police.  His owners will now be taking Diggy to a vet to verify his breed and then meeting in court.

At the Waterford Township meeting, dozens of residents took Diggy’s story to heart and protested the city’s ban on pitbulls.

"It makes me sick to my stomach that my limited resources and township's limited to resources are being used to do nothing more than harass a bunch of pet owners for owing a bunch of mutts with large heads and short coats,” said one woman during the public comment section.

"This negative press unfortunately impacts out image if we are to be seen as the welcoming and fiscally responsible community that we are I strongly urge you to repeal this ban as soon as possible,” said another man during public comments.

The item was not on the agenda. It will be up to township leaders to change the issue.

Diggy’s owners were not at the meeting.
