At least two dozen vehicles had windows and windshields broken overnight in several Troy subdivisions.
Troy police were still taking reports Wednesday afternoon from people who experienced the vandalism.
Raneem Alayoubi's father woke her early this morning to tell her that someone had busted out the front passenger side window of her Toyota SUV. Alayoubi told 7 Action News she typically parks her car on the street.
"Immediately I was freaking out," she said. "This neighborhood's so quiet. We're all friends and that stuff doesn't really happen."
But it did this time on Lawson Street in the Troy Meadows subdivision. Other neighborhood residents, on Scottsdale, Miracle, Meadowbrook and Kirk Lane Drive, also made similar reports to police about damage to their vehicles.
A home security camera captured an image of a man dressed in all white circling a pick-up truck in the Westwood Park, the subdivision located just south of Troy Meadows.
The truck belonged to Leonard Sacco's daughter.
"What he's looking for I don't know, obviously valuables," Sacco said.
The man could be seen carrying a flashlight and also some type of mallet, which police said can be used to break windows without setting off car alarms.
"I don't know if the motion lights scared him off and he didn't attempt this car or the Jeep in the driveway and he went on," Sacco said. "Later I find out he got someone in the neighborhood here and like five people in the next neighborhood north of us."
Troy police are investigating the vandalism.
"It's an uncommon occurrence but it does happen," said Sgt. Meghan Lehman. "We're pretty confident we have information, descriptions, possible video evidence that we can track this person down."
Alayoubi had taken her laptop into the house Tuesday night but her backpack was still in the SUV. Even though other valuable things were in the bag, including her Apple watch, nothing was taken.
"Having this happen to me definitely threw me off guard," she said. "It's kind of alarming, it's a little bit scary to know that someone was walking around doing that."
