(WXYZ) — We've been warning you all week.. this weekend is going to be a scorcher! If you're looking for a place to cool off or maybe a place to kickback with a steamy book and a cold drink, the beaches in southeast Michigan can make you feel like you're in a whole other world. Our viewers weighed in at our online poll to choose the best beach around for our Thursday's Top 7.

7. MARTINDALE BEACH (MILFORD)

We're starting off at Martindale Beach at Kensington Metropark in Milford. It's right on the edge of Kent lake a beautiful lake where you can boat you can kayak. There are also activities here for the kids. There are slides and playgrounds for a full day of family fun We caught up with cyclist Beth Mcgee, who says she swims across Kent Lake when she's at the beach. Mcgee has fond memories of bringing her kids when they were younger. Now her kids like to lay out in the sun. "And my kids are older now teenagers. So they don't splash around as much as they used to but they still like coming."

6. LAKEPORT BEACH (BURTCHVILLE TOWNSHIP)

Lakeport Beach in Butchville, sSt. Clair county is in sixth. In addition to the beach, there are campsites and cabin so you can stay overnight!

5. STERLING STATE PARK (MONROE)

This 5th spot goes to the beach at Sterling State Park in Monroe, It’s Michigan’s only state park on Lake Erie. Check it out for the one mile of beach for sunning, swimming and fun!

The beach at Spring Mill Pond is fourth. It’s a spring-fed and with an up north feel. There are a lot of picnic tables and grills to keep the crowds fed.

3. BELLE ISLE BEACH (DETROIT)

Now most people, when they think of beaches, don't really think of Detroit. But hey there is the city skyline behind me. We're here on Belle Isle. It's a beautiful beach. Lots of folks pack here for holidays and for weekends but during the weekday you can come here and have a little beach solitude.

Destiny Candelaria says comes here a lot with her family. She says there a long list of things to do here to keep busy. "There are beaches and there's the aquarium and stuff like that. There are parks. You see children. There's fishing canoeing."

2. STONY CREEK (SHELBY TWP)

Our runner up is Eastwood Beach at Stony Creek Metropark. It’s one of two beaches in the sprawling park. It’s great for a lazy day. If you have little ones the playground get’s high marks, too! In fact, the playground here made out list of Best Playgrounds in Metro Detroit.

1. LAKESIDE BEACH (PORT HURON)
And the beach in the according to our 7 Action News viewers is Lakeside Beach in Port Huron. Visitors say they love the endless viewers from the shores of Lake Huron. They say the size of Lake Huron makes it feel like they're looking out into the ocean! (Head up! There is a parking fee for people who don’t live in Port Huron.)

With a lot of people head to the beach this weekend, here are a few tip U-S Lifesaving Association.

  • If possible swim near a lifeguard if possible. -- you’ll make it easier for them to see you.
  • Obey Posted Signs and Flags.
  • Secondly, make sure friends and family know when you're in the water and consider swimming with a buddy. This way people are watching for you and you and your buddy can be each other eyes and ears in the water.
  • Don't forget the sunscreen and to drink plenty of water.
