There are some truly special people among us, those who put others before themselves, individuals who really want to make this world a better place.
Fourteen-year-old Emily McCulloch is one of them.
“In the beginning, it's not going to feel huge but it can, it really can be huge. It can change someone's life,” says Emily.
McCulloch, of Saline, is so wise, well beyond her years. Emily’s spirit is so generous, grand even and it’s all centered around giving.
“I grew up with a cousin with autism that's always been part of my life. And when I was eleven, I had a friend who had a cousin, who passed away of cancer when he was three.
So, she stitched him a blanket and soon after, Emily did the same for other kids too, all with one thing in mind.
”I like to think that it gives people hope,” she says.
It is sort of a hug from her heart.
Emily has a special affection for young people with special needs. She wants to help make their world bigger and full of love.
This is her passion, her purpose.
Hence, Emily's non-profit, Hope Blankets was born.
“The blankets kind of serve as comfort for kids who are going through really big battles,” says Emily lovingly.
Emily delivers her hope blankets in person, by mail, across the county and beyond.
