Many students are on edge after two racist graffiti incidents were reported over the last several days, including red, white, and blue spray paint with the writing “KKK” - a hate filled name, offending African Americans.

“It’s really messed up,” said student Kimberly Mershon.  “And as much as l love freedom of speech there were just some things that should be - keep it internal.”

Then Wednesday night,  a rumor spread quickly of a RA at Sellers dorm receiving a racist note, threatening him based on his skin color.

Some students told 7 Action News the rumor was even discussed in class today.

“Nobody understood where it came from, but can't really do nothing about it,” said student Demerra Smith.

7 Action News spoke to a spokesperson at Eastern Michigan University. He says the threat was taken very seriously and EMU police began investigating right away.

They soon learned no threat was made and sent a letter out informing students. But students are hoping the person behind the graffiti is caught soon.

“The aroma or tension on campus has risen,” said student Russell Smith.  “Students don’t feel safe. It’s become a problem.”

Meanwhile, we’re told EMU Police are aggressively investigating the case and have beefed up security on campus.

Many students are hoping some type of unity and healing can begin.  A Christian group on campus held a prayer and unity rally earlier today and another prayer vigil was held last night.

Some are hoping more can be done in the future.

“If you are gay, okay. If you are Muslim, okay.If you are Asian, cool,” said Mershon. “It does not matter. As long as you don’t do wrong by me I’m okay.I just honestly wish there were more people like that.”

A $2,500 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the graffiti incidents.
