Units destroyed by large apartment complex fire in Ypsilanti

YPSILANTI, Mich. (WXYZ) - Firefighters are investigating the cause of a large fire at an apartment complex in Ypsilanti.

The fire has been put out. However, firefighters had to battle hotspots for several hours.

At the height of the fire, flames and heavy smoke could be seen shooting out of the Schooner Cove Apartment complex located on Bosuns Way.

Several neighbors and fire victims stood outside of the burning building taking pictures and watching crews knock down flames and smoke.

There is no word on any injuries. Several cats and at least one dog were rescued.

The Ypslanti Fire Chief told 7 Action News at least 15 units were destroyed.

It is not yet known how the fire started. The American Red Cross is assisting displaced families.
