The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out if a driver intentionally ran over a family of swans.

We're told at least five were killed around 7:15 am Wednesday, near Parker and Scio Church Roads in Scio Township.

Investigators believe the driver of a lifted Jeep or truck veered off the road, hit the swans, and continued on.

We obtained photos of the dead swans on the side of the road, some too graphic to fully show. Neighbors are upset, and truly believe this was done on purpose.

Leslie White tells us she watched the swans grow all summer, taking a photo last week and making it her cover photo on Facebook.

When asked who does this, White answered, "A heartless person, someone who doesn't appreciate nature and what it's all about."

Experts say they were Trumpeter swans, a threatened species in Michigan.

If deemed intentional, we're told a reward would soon follow for information leading to an arrest.
