The pain is intense for a woman who lost her nephew in what now appears to be a murder.

His body was found on Tuesday in very unusual circumstances.

Patricia Diane Glover tells 7 Action News, “I knew it had to be something to do with robbery because Ray wouldn’t have done that.”

Her nephew is Ray Mason. His naked body was found in the Huron River.

Patricia knows he didn’t go in there because he hated the water.

When she identified the body, there were injuries on his face and head.  Investigators now believe he had been beaten, robbed and his clothes removed.

“They never found the cell phone, the backpack, nor the clothes,” Patricia said.

She says Ray liked to drink but never caused any trouble for anyone.  And he has been her right-hand and left-hand man for the last several years adding, “Ray came all the way from North Carolina ten years ago, brought me back here after my husband’s death. He’s always been a quiet, quiet man.”

Investigators have not said why they changed from no foul play to murder - if they had a witness come forward or something else.

Patricia will be watching to see who gets charged and how.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do now with Ray gone. I know the Lord’s going to give me strength in some way.  But each step I make I’ll think my little buddy is gone.”

No formal charges have been issued.
