An Ypsilanti principal is suspended without pay, but parents and students are telling the school board they made the wrong decision.

Aaron Rose was suspended officially about a week ago, from his principal position at Ypsilanti Community Middle School. He is not receiving pay.

The suspension comes on the heels of a physical altercation with a student, but there are a lot of questions as to why exactly he is being suspended.

Supporters of Rose said it was because he was defending himself while disciplining a student. The district won’t comment on the matter.

At Monday night’s school board meeting, parents, students and friends spoke out about their support for Rose.

"What are we teaching our kids? You can attack, you go after an adult and they get in trouble?” said one mother during the public comment section.

"Mr. Rose he always had my back, now I'm coming to have his,” said student, D.J. Larson.

District leaders won’t say why exactly Rose is suspended, but they are willing to hear parents.

"Mr. Rose is very, very well respected in the school district, parents have had their input in the matter and they are really concerned about what happened,” said Dr. Benjamin Edmondson, the superintendent of Ypsilanti Community Schools.

Edmondson said the district won’t be changing the decision about the suspension.

"He deserves to have parents that support him come out and tell him and tell us what they think about him, I appreciate that and I will always appreciate that, but I just can't say anything because it's a personnel matter,” said Edmondson.

Rose is not being fired, he will back in school with pay in June.
