A group of Arab American students are fighting for their rights in Dearborn Heights.

Tonight, the students won the right to have a student union. But, the district says they were never unfairly denied.

It’s a fight that's pitted a group of students against their own school board.

The issue was an Arab student union. Kids at Crestwood High have been trying to form one since January, but they say they've been unfairly denied.

Similar organizations are common in other schools.

The Crestwood District is within Dearborn Heights/ they again addressed the frustration tonight. As we sat in on the meeting, students and civil rights leaders listened closely to explanations by the board, followed by a new promise.

The Arab American Civil Rights League could still seek action in court on behalf of students.

Meantime, the board is pledging their commitment to an all-inclusive district.
