DETROIT (WXYZ) - Crews are still working on a massive sinkhole on West Jefferson Avenue and Randolph right in front of the Renaissance Center. Crews started widening the sinkhole today to help repair it.
The sinkhole was discovered Saturday night. A taxi drove into it before it could be blocked off and had to be removed.
The sinkhole was triggered by a water main break, and is estimated to be around 30 feet deep. Crews widened it this morning to around eight feet so they could work on it.
MDOT says this will be a major project, and that there are a number of utility lines in the area which makes it a complicated repair.
Drivers are asked to take the Lodge to Jefferson to avoid the area.
