An innocent driver was killed and several others were hurt after a police chase ended in a four-car crash in Brownstown Township Tuesday, according to Michigan State Police.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Nicole Ann Cutting of Trenton.

It happened at around 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Dix Highway and Allen Road.

A male driver and his female passenger were fleeing from Woodhaven police for retail fraud and a parole violation. The pair was northbound on Dix when they crashed into three other vehicles that were southbound on Allen.

Cutting was the driver of one of the other vehicles and was killed in the crash. Those who were hurt suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

MSP said the patrol cars pursing the couple had on lights and sirens.

The police vehicles fell back before the crash. Brownstown police responded to the scene, but were not involved in the pursuit, according to MSP LT. Mike Shaw.

The male and female suspects are in custody. The man is being treated at a local hospital. The woman is being held at the Woodhaven Police Department. Charges are pending.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash and more information will be released as it becomes available.
