Highland Park Police Officer Mitch Heaney could tell that seconds mattered Sunday morning when he and his partner got a run to a clinic on Hamilton and Glendale on a report of a man stabbed.

When they arrived, Officer Heaney says the victim was conscious, but bleeding heavily from the neck.

And that's when Heaney, who is a month away from becoming a registered nurse, could see he had to act fast if the man was going to survive the knife attack.
