DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) — There were so many questions when a loving mom of two, who made a living as a local photographer and artist was found dead in her home. In court Friday some of those questions were answered.

Balkees Sadek, 29, was found by Dearborn Police on April 6. Officers say they responded to her house on Dunning Street. She was in the bathtub. A medical examiner said she was strangled and drowned.

On Saturday, April 11, 2020, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office approved two Felony charges of Tampering with Evidence and Lying to a Peace Officer During an Investigation against Hassan Alwaily of Dearborn. Police gathered more evidence. On Friday, May 1 Alwaily was also charged with Felony Murder and First-Degree Murder. He was given no bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 12.

“It is alleged in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of a larceny you did murder Balkees Sadek,” said The Honorable Mark Sommers as he arraigned Alwaily.

“Justice hopefully will be served,” said Zee Shami, a friend of Sadek.

Shami says people who knew Sadek loved how she made them feel special. Sadek had a company called Bella Brands. Through it she offered photography, plus she sold candles, wreaths, and bouquets she custom made.

“She had a really good heart. If I could describe her with one word, it would be creative,” said Shami.

She says her heart goes out to Sadek’s two daughters.

“She lived for her girls,” said Shami.

“Our detectives have worked tirelessly on this investigation. This crime, in particular, struck the conscience of all good people. Our condolences go out to the family, friends, and the community,” said Chief Ronald Haddad of the Dearborn Police Department in a statement.
