GROSSE ILE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Wayne County officials say they are anticipating the re-opening of the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge on Thursday.

However, officials say while they are scheduled to reopen the bridge Thursday evening, unforeseen event or weather could cause their timetable to change.

The bridge has been closed since last week for emergency repairs. Crews are installing 10 steel plates on support beams that had deteriorated.

Wayne County has issued the following repair schedule for the bridge, which will undergo rehabbing in 2020:

  • Phase I (foundation improvements): The work that was originally planned as phase 1 will include foundation rehabilitation, which entails reinforcing the existing foundation, most of which is underwater. This work will require highly specialized expertise and equipment. The design is expected to be completed in summer 2020.
  • Phase II (superstructure improvements): The work will entail removing and replacing deteriorated structural members. The design for Phase II has been completed and rehabilitation work is being bid out. Work is expected to take place throughout the entire 2020 construction season.

The work will require the bridge to be closed for an extended period of time.
