TAYLOR, Mich. (WXYZ) — A photo of several teachers and counselors showing the middle finger sparked debate in Taylor Thursday.

The image was posted to social media, but according to the Taylor Teachers Federation, it wasn't posted by a teacher.

The Taylor High School staff members reportedly took the photo in the fall, in a counselor's office.

“It was private and teachers have private lives," said Linda Moore, president of the Taylor Teachers Federation.

Moore said a hard copy of the private photo was stored in the counselor's desk and a student found it.

“A student went into our counselor's office and rifled through this private area and took a picture of the photo," Moore said.

That's when the photo ended up on social media. Several Action News viewers saw it and wanted answers.

According to Moore, the photo was taken in the fall during a goodbye party for an assistant principal leaving the district.

“It was a joke," she said. "You know, for him leaving the district. It was a private photo taken after school hours with no students around.”

Moore said the staff members in the photo have impeccable records with the district, and are not under any disciplinary review at this time.

District Superintendent Ben Williams told 7 Action News he is aware of the photo, and looking into the matter.
