A federal judge has allowed a local physically and mentally impaired woman who was set to be deported to temporarily stay.

Muna Kazan was set to be deported Monday night to Lebanon. She is a national of the country but has never lived there. For the past 23 years, she has lived with her family in Dearborn. The government has said her visa expired but her attorney Nabih Ayad said this is a different case.

“There is a grave miscarriage of justice that is happening to this lady,” Ayad said. “There are multiple challenges.”

These physical and mental challenges were caused after Kazan was in two accidents.

“They tell me I’m faking," Kazan said. "I’m handicapped too. I’m not faking."

She has to be under 24-hour care by her family. If she was sent to Lebanon there would be no one to care for her, Ayad said.

“If I go over there I don’t know nobody," Kazan said. "Nobody. I don’t have house. I don’t have nothing. How can I live? Maybe in the streets."

Now the Board of Immigration Appeals will look over Kazan’s case, then a federal judge will decide if she can permanently stay.
