Police believe murder of 31-year-old Redford man is a case of road rage

REDFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Redford man was shot and killed as he was driving home after celebrating his sister’s birthday. Police believe this is a case of road rage.

The family of John Slowick Jr. is devastated and wants justice.

Jonie Slowick can’t understand what happened to her brother after he celebrated her birthday Friday, June 5th.

“That was my best friend, my baby brother, my best friend,” she said.

When John left Jonie‘s birthday celebration, he said he will text her when he got home.

It was a 25-minute drive, so when she didn’t hear from him, Jonie was concerned.

“So I started calling, calling, calling, calling, nothing.”

That’s when the family got a call from Redford police.

John’s car was found crashed on Wormer near Acacia, not far from Telegraph Road.

Redford Police Captain Al DiPrima explained, “Officers discovered the vehicle had crashed into a tree, upon further investigation it was discovered the victim was shot.”

John was shot twice. Police say the bullets came through the car door and window.

“So for the rest of my life, every time my birthday comes around, I have to think about my brother being killed.”

John was 31-years-old leaves behind an 8-year-old daughter. His father, John Sr., says the family is devastated.

“John was a loving person and wouldn’t hurt anybody,” the victim’s father explained.

Police believe this is a case road rage based on surveillance videos. In the video, you can see two cars speeding down Telegraph, police say one car is being driven by John.

The other car is a white 4-door Chevy Impala with the passenger headlight being brighter than the other front headlight.

Jonie added, “Somebody knows something or this person who did this please, please just come forward... please.”
