DETROIT (WXYZ) - More than 800 Wayne County Sheriffs deputies have been given free gym memberships to area Powerhouse Gyms.
The gift stems from a community partnership announced today between the company and the Wayne County Deputy Sheriffs' Association (WCSDA).
"It's a way for me to help out some guys in need," said Mike Agemy, Director of Operations for gyms located in Brownstown, Dearborn and Lincoln Park.
"These guys are worn out, they're working 18 hour shifts," he said.
Agemy said the idea came to fruition after he was contacted by union vice-president Jeremy Cady, who sought to replace some of the department's aging gear.
"We have machines held together with tape," Cady said.
Agemy's offer of free access to the nearly one-thousand member force was beyond Cady's expectations.
"The memberships last a year," Agemy said.
"But my plan is to make them indefinite."
