The weekend after Thanksgiving is when most people start to decorate their home for the holidays.

But for two families in Lincoln Park, their Christmas cheer has been short-lived.

A real-life grinch stole their Christmas decorations.

"Everything is gone, everything is broken," said LeeNa Palmer.

It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas on Ferry Avenue in Lincoln Park.

The theft happened over the weekend just days after Palmer and her neighbor Jerald Harrington put out all their decorations.

Thieves took several pieces and destroyed the ones left behind.

Last year, the two families won an award from the city for having the best holiday decorations.

Palmer said, "You want to feel that happy feeling at Christmas time and that's not it this year."

Glass candy canes, strings of lights and hanging light balls were stolen, as well as an inflatable Olaf.

Jerald Harrington explained, "Just to have somebody just come by and destroy what your work hard on with no regard it's just, it hurts."

Palmer says her car was egged.

While putting up decorations bring her joy, next year she may scale it back and put up security cameras instead.

"Rip out all of the decorations after that because, if you can't have anything nice why waste the money," she said.
