ECORSE, Mich. (WXYZ) — "I really want the dog to get better and find a really, really good home," said Lyric Montgomery about the emaciated dog that she and her neighbor sought help for. The dog wandered onto the porch of a home on Rockwood near Jefferson in Ecorse Tuesday afternoon.

Multiple injuries on the dog led Lyric and Robert Duggan to believe she may have been tortured.

"Why would you do that to an innocent animal? They're so innocent," said Lyric who posted pictures of the dog on Facebook Tuesday afternoon in hopes of getting help for the dog.

"I knew she hadn't eaten in a long time. She was totally malnourished," said Robert who took the dog into his home until help arrived.

The dog, believed to be three to four-years-old, was taken to Woodhaven Animal Hospital where Dr. Lucretia Greear and staff treated the severely underweight dog for multiple burns to her body.

The burns are believed to have been caused by chemicals, cigarettes, or fireworks.

The dog, now named Destiny, has begun treatment in the animal hospital's hyperbaric oxygen chamber which is expected is speed recovery.

"We're tired of seeing all the cruelty cases," said Dr. Patricia Odette, President of the Animal Resource Funding Foundation (ARFF). "If we could just expose more animal abusers and the consequences, then maybe we'll have less of it."

Animal cruelty and neglect are criminal offenses and the search is on to find the person or people responsible for abusing and/or neglecting Destiny.

And AARF is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Ecorse Police at 313-381-0900.
