HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Harper Woods police are investigating an armed home invasion on Old Homestead Drive.

It happened Friday afternoon around 3:20 near Kelly Road.

Investigators said a male suspect followed an elderly woman into her house, pulled out a knife, and demanded cash.

The suspect took off with the money, but was later arrested after a K9 officer tracked his scent.

“He immediately picked up on the scent and the K9 dog led them right to the suspect,” said Deputy Chief John Vorgitch.

The victim was too shaken up to go on camera, but told 7 Action News the experience was harrowing. At one point she said, she feared the worst.

“It’s pretty sad that somebody of this age has to experience something like this,” Vorgitch said.

The suspect is being held without bond until he’s arraigned.

He's facing a felony charge of armed home invasion.

Police believe this was a random crime, and said the victim does not know the suspect.
