The Mocha Monologues returns to Detroit for a third installment featuring battle between the sexes

Mocha Monologues III: Unisex Edition is Saturday

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Is your relationship working? Or is your relationship working you?

That's the question The Mocha Monologues III: Unisex Edition poses.  The live stage production is a series of six monologues -- three men and three women.  The three couples tangle with how to communicate over problems many couples face.

"While the show may not answer the problems addressed, it will shed light on possible solutions," said Director Adra Young,

She co-wrote the production with Tracie Christian.  They also share directing duties. They call themselves The Live Ladies of Literature.

"It's the belief of The Live Ladies of Literature that art imitates life," said Christian.

This performance is the third installment in The Mocha Monologues series.  The debut featured an all-female cast which focused on self-esteem issues.

The second production was an all-male cast that allowed women to eavesdrop on a man's conversation with himself.

This third version brings both sexes together.  The characters talk about problems in their relationship with their partner.  So you get both sides of the equation.

The script is based on real-life scenarios the writers have viewed personally or indirectly.
