Kids in Wayne County are in for some good, 'clean' fun.

The 30th annual Mud Day lets children get dirty from head to toe.

This community event helps first responders train for dangerous situations.

Wayne County Parks transforms Nankin Mills Park into a 75 feet by 150 feet mud pit.

Children ages 12 and younger get the opportunity to get dirty in the messiest playground in southeast Michigan.

Wayne County Executive Warren Evans said, "Make a big mud pit, we separate the kids by age. And let them go at it."

Children ages 12 and younger spent the day "happier than a pig in mud."

But this is a training session for a mass decontamination situation.

Evans explained, "Fireman tell me if you can get mud off of them you can get anything off of them."

That's why the Western Wayne County Hazmat team are on hand and happy to lend their hoses.

"Help decontaminate all of the kids afterwards which is a good training exercise for them."
