Westland Police search for suspected package thief who was caught on surveillance video

WESTLAND, Mich. (WXYZ) - Westland Police are asking for the public's help to find a man who, they believe, was following a UPS driver in order to steal packages after they were delivered.

Officers say the man was caught on surveillance video in the 38900 block of Joy Road at around 2:30 pm on December 23, 2013.

Police say the man appears to knock on the door and, when there is no answer, he appears to steal the item that had just been delivered.

The man appears to be driving a maroon or purple Chevy Uplander or Pontiac Montana. He is described as wearing an orange jacket, dark colored slacks and a blue button down shirt. He has either a shaved or a bald head.

At the time of the theft he was wearing a goatee or thin beard.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Lieutenant Todd Adams of the Westland Police Detective Burean at (734) 721-6311.
