CHESTERFIELD TWP (WXYZ) — The remains of an Eastpointe man, missing since 2018, were discovered by a man hunting mushrooms in Chesterfield Township on Saturday.

Bones, weathered clothing and camping equipment belonging to a 35-year-old Eastpointe man were found in a heavily wooded and swampy area just south of 23 Mile Road and east of the I-94 freeway, police say.

It was around 4 p.m. Saturday when the Chesterfield resident, who was hunting mushrooms, located the remains.

Chesterfield police and the Macomb County Medical Examiner's Office investigator were called to the area. There were no signs of trauma to the remains, and an I.D. was found in a wallet near the remains.

Investigators say the 35-year-old white male had been listed as missing since July 2018.

The deceased man's next of kin, who lives in Texas, was contacted by police.

This is an ongoing investigation.
