Renovation plans for the Detroit Windsor Tunnel have been delayed until 2017, according to a statement from tunnel operators.

The tunnel is expected to undergo improvements that include removal and replacement of the ceiling. Electrical, communications, lighting and masonry work is also expected to be done.

Back in March, operators said the tunnel would close in the evening hours during the summer starting in May.

“There will be no closures of the Detroit Windsor Tunnel this year,” said Neal Belitsky, President, DWT in a statement. “The renovations will happen, the project just needs to be re-engineered before we begin, but our travelers can rest assured that once the schedule is confirmed they will be notified and advised of the new work schedule.”
