(WXYZ) — Detroit does Opening Day better than anybody else, and if you’re looking to fill up on good food and good drinks in and around Comerica Park, you’re going to want to know which restaurants hit it out of the park, and which have health department violations.

WXYZ’s Andrea Isom visited the Elwood Bar and Grill on E. Adams Street, and was pleasantly surprised to find zero health department violations.

Restaurant workers told Isom that they’re preparing for a big day Thursday with DJs, party tents, tailgating and an outdoor food spread.

Another restaurant hitting grand slams for decades is Nemo’s on Michigan Avenue. The sports bar has been a historic game day mainstay for decades and for a good reason: no violations.

Lastly, the Town Pump Tavern, a longtime Detroit watering hole, has moved locations and opened back up in time for Opening Day. The bar moved across the street to the shuttered Centaur Bar.

Before shuttering the pub was cited for seven health department violations including food held past the expiration date and potentially hazardous food stored next to ready to eat food.

All three floors of the newly opened bar, plus party tents and a DJ are in place for Opening Day.
