RIVER ROUGE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Some students at River Rouge High School are learning entrepreneurship in class. Sixty sophomores, junior and seniors are in the class, which just launched this year.

Students build and pitch their small business ideas to their teacher and then they sell their products.

At "Market Day," on Wednesday, students sold everything from t-shirts to socks, to eyelashes and cupcakes. The class combines a micro-loan program with a pop-up market.

The goal is helping students learn from their success and failures.

“Most kids are coming from backgrounds that are tough but their resilience and perseverance will allow them to be successful,” said Tarence Wheeler, director of Corporate and Community Affairs with River Rouge Schools.

Blessing Jackson is a senior at River Rouge High School.

"I'm learning to have confidence," she said. "Run my own business as an entrepreneur, how to be professional. I learned to have my voice."

Students told us they love the experience and are excited to continue and expand their businesses.
