Rochester Hills apartment fire caused by lightning strike

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A lightning strike caused an apartment fire in Rochester Hills on Sunday, according to a report by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The building, located in the 2800 block of Lower Ridge Drive, caught fire around 8 p.m.

A woman inside the building reported the fire, saying she had been inside her apartment when she heard a loud popping sound that was coming from outside. The power inside the building went out.

There was also a thunderstorm happening in the area, with several lightning strikes. All residents inside were evacuated and were uninjured.

According to an investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Fire Investigations Unit, the fire was electrical, caused by a lightning strike.

The investigation is ongoing.
