The Motor City is on the road to recovery and Wednesday, Mayor Duggan gave the Obama administration a tour of the city's progress.

A lot of good things are happening, but is it being felt by all Detroit residents?

The road to a better tomorrow runs straight through Downtown Detroit. You will find many businesses and plenty of new restaurants to tempt your taste buds.

You'll find much of the same in Midtown, where new housing is being built, and hip shops are popping up.

During his visit to Detroit, President Obama saw the progress for himself, visiting the Jolly Pumpkin restaurant and Shinola store. It's a world some Detroit residents will never feel a part of.

Robert Taylor lives on Detroit's east side, an elderly gentlemen with a laugh that can be heard several blocks away.

When asked if would purchase a Shinola watch, he said, "Pay $500.  Look at me.  I am out here pushing snow.  If I had that kind of money, I would have workers out here helping me."

We drove to southwest Detroit and met Maria, a long time Detroit resident, with a love for the city, but not for the illegal dumping going on next door.

"We have tires, stuff from roofing and metals.  You name it, we got it, along with garbage," Maria told 7 Action News.
