ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — An Oakland County Commission candidate is asking the city of Royal Oak to appoint her to the vacant seat once held by Commissioner Kim Gibbs, who died in August. On Monday night, the Royal Oak City Commission will begin the process of evaluating replacements.

"It's really with a heavy heart that I ask to fill Kim’s seat," said Oakland County Commission candidate Pamela Lindell. "When I ran for city commission, I thought I'd be sitting next to Kim, not replacing her. Kim never really recovered from the series of political attacks, personal threats and negative treatment by Mayor Fournier and the commission majority," said Lindell. "I never imagined running for the Royal Oak commission before 2019, but the continued shenanigans at city hall prompted me to run and Kim also encouraged me. I love Royal Oak and I look forward to serving the residents and improving our community."

Long-time Royal Oak City Commissioner Kim Gibbs was found unconscious in her home a week after having a car accident on Aug. 1.

Gibbs reportedly suffered a seizure.

In April, Gibbs was asked to resign as a commissioner after she was spotted protesting the stay-at-home order at the Capitol building. She was ultimately censured by the board.

Gibbs was reportedly under "constant distress, anxiety, depression and the inability to sleep."
