LIVONIA, Mich. (WXYZ) — Reading a book is an incredible way to experience and see the world. Which is something our friends, neighbors, and other people who are blind or visually impaired have every right to experience as well.

Braille books give them the freedom to education themselves and be prepared to take the opportunities we all have to succeed.

Seedlings Braille Books for Children in Livonia has been a blessing for so many people in metro Detroit, across the county, and across the globe. The business and the mission started more than 30 years ago by Debra Bonde, in her basement in Detroit. But it continues to grow today.

Braille books are expensive and still very rare. But the need for them is still great. That being said, every year Seedlings has a fundraiser: Bowling for Braille Books for Children. This year it will be at Novi Bowl.

"We hope to raise $60,000, so we can produce and distribute 6,000 more braille books. Every $10 donation allows us to make another book,” says Karen Smith. Seedlings' Community Outreach Manager.

Seedlings has distributed almost 600,00 books for blind kids for all over the world, in 50 states and 75 countries.

Seedlings has changed and enhanced so many lives. Katelyn Kelel, is one of them.

“Without Seedlings, I don’t think I would be able to get as far as I have. It’s really nice to be able to read something in your own voice,” says Katelyn.

Saturday, March 14th will be a special day, for many reasons. There will be a history-making, celebrity bowler, on hand: Michigan Supreme Court Justice, Richard Bernstein.

He's the first blind justice elected to the state’s highest court. This is his personal invite to all of you.

“Come and be with us and you will find that you will have an incredible experience, a wondrous opportunity. But most importantly. when you spend time with us, you’ll have a chance to have true perspective on what it means to be alive and what it means to find value in your life,” says Justice Bernstein.

So, let that day be a day YOU help make a difference!
