With less than an hour until the polls close on the Michigan primary election, several precincts are reportedly running out of ballots as turnouts are higher than expected.

According to the city of Ferndale, precincts 1 and 3 are out of ballots, and other precincts are running low.

Ferndale and other communities in Oakland County are reporting ballot problems.

Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown says they should be printing ballots off the voter-assist terminal. She says in one precinct a clerk used the wrong size paper.

She also says some problems are due to spoiled ballots.

Brown also says they are also delivering more ballot so precincts that say they need them. However, in some cases, they are finding that the precincts have not run out of ballots.

Brown says that the county orders the ballots, based on a formula determined by statute. They also padded that number, but turnout has been higher than anticipated. She also says some clerks did not equip properly.

The polls close at 8 p.m., but if you are in line, YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO VOTE, according to the Secretary of State.
