FORT PICKETT, Virginia (WXYZ) — Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kevin P. Sullivan, 34, was killed Monday in Virginia when severe weather caused a tree to knock over and fall on the officer.
Sullivan, a native of Chesaning, Michigan, died from his injuries and two other soldiers were injured.
According to a release, Sullivan served as a petroleum systems technician.
On Monday, while in annual training, the large tree fell on Sullivan and also struck a parked up-armored Humvee that the two injured soldiers were standing near. They were taken to a hospital, treated and released.
Sullivan joined the Army June 2003, and was deployed to Iraq from 2007 to 2008.
He received awards and honors that include, the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Sullivan is survived by his mother, father and sister.
The two injured soldiers are assigned to the 952nd Quartermaster Company in Livonia, Michigan. Sullivan was assigned to the 13th Quartermaster Detachment, 645th Regional Support Group and 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in Livonia, Michigan.
