SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Anyone lose a pet snake? You might want to contact Shelby Township police.
On Wednesday night, police say they got a call from a security guard at an RV storage lot on Hamlin Road. That security guard said there was a python on the loose. Officer Fettig was dispatched there and says, "Honestly, if it was a different type of snake I would probably be a little afraid, but I've dealt with (a python) before."
She says the ball python had been slithering across the lot and when she got there it was in the engine of an old Corvette.
"One of our detectives brought a box and actually brought one of the dog poles," Fettig said. "They were like 'I'm not touching it.' I'm like, it's no big deal. I picked it up off the car and put it in the box."
Officer Fettig says she wasn't rattled at all by the ball python because her friends have had them. The snake is now at Macomb County Animal Control.
She says it must have been someone's pet. She was just glad she could get to it in time.
"They like the heat," Officer Fettig said. "I knew if it stayed out there long, it wouldn't survive long. It was cold last night."

If it's not claimed, it will go to a local rescue.
