(WXYZ) — Shipt workers are on day three of a strike across the country. Gig Workers United in Michigan announced last week that workers for Shipt would go on strike from Oct. 17-19 over changes the workers were upset with.

According to the workers, Shipt announced they would hire another 100,000 independent contractors, called "shoppers," even though current shoppers are already struggling to receive orders. They alleged Shipt over-hired during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The workers alleged that some shoppers were paid low wages when the pandemic first struck as orders were canceled mid-shopping that had items that were out of stock like disinfectant and toilet paper.

In 2017, Target Corporation bought Shipt in a $550 million deal.

We reached out to the company. They said in part, "We are aware that there is a very small, vocal minority that may disagree with some of the steps we take. We respect their opinions and are listening."
