It was a shocking confession in an Ann Arbor courtroom this afternoon as a teenager admitted to killing a high school football athlete.

When 18-year-old Jordan Klee was found dead last October, it sent a shock wave through the community.

It was Ann Arbor's first homicide in 2016.

Klee was supposed to be attending class at Pioneer High School the day he was found shot and killed.

Today Danta Wright, the accused killer, was supposed to have a pre-trial hearing for the case, instead he admitted he and two other friends were trying to rob the 18-year-old at gunpoint.

Klee’s mother was in court, sitting just feet away from Wright as the shocking testimony continued.

“And as a result of that armed robbery, what did you do with that gun to Mr. Jordan Klee?" asked the assistant prosecutor with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

“Shot him,” answered Wright.

“Where did you shoot him?" the attorney questioned.

“In the top, by his head,” said Wright.

“And did you kill him with that shot?" the attorney asked.

“Yes,” replied Wright.

Police say Klee died at Pine Lake Village Apartments, just miles from home.

The high school senior, who did well in school and who loved playing football, was found by a maintenance worker.

During the hearing Wright stood casually in court, answering questions and remained calm after learning he now faces 23 to 50 years in prison for armed robbery and murder. Plus another two years for felony firearm.

He is expected to he formally sentenced in July.

The other two people charged in this case have also plead guilty for their roles.

Delreno Gracey and Jermarius Ellison are scheduled to be sentenced in September.
