SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was shot at an apartment complex in Southfield, allegedly by her 20-year-old brother.
Police say the incident took place on Jan. 3 at the Twelve North Apartments on 12 Mile Road.
The brother is currently in police custody.
“I have a brother and I know my brother wouldn’t put me in any harm's way," apartment complex resident Candace Smith said. "So, the fact that it’s a sibling like that touch my heart even more. A child should never to see what a gun feels like, should never have to see what a one even looks like.”
Police sources tell 7 Action News that the shooting could have possibly been deliberate; the suspect has reportedly not been cooperating with authorities.
The girl's mother and another brother were home at the time of the shooting.
