A recount is currently underway for the SMART bus millage renewal for Macomb County.

Voters in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties voted on Aug. 8 in favor to renew the SMART buss millage. It passed with 77 percent of the vote in Oakland County and 73 percent in Wayne County, while narrowly passing in Macomb County by just 39 votes.

The Michigan Taxpayers Alliance requested the recount.

The proposal would increase the .9863 mills to 1.0 mills for 2018-2021 in Oakland and Macomb counties and helps fund the SMART public transportation system in all three counties.

If the recount ends up with the millage failing in Macomb County, SMART service in the county would end by the end of the year.
