Some areas of the thumb could get up to 16 inches of snow

(WXYZ) — Heavy snow is moving through metro Detroit and it's expected some areas could see up to 6 inches, but the thumb could see massive amounts of snow.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for four counties in the thumb, including Huron through 4 p.m. Tuesday and Sanilac, St. Clair and Tuscola counties through 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Port Huron could see around 10 inches of snow, according to the NWS, while Sandusky and areas around it could see 10-12 inches.

The NWS said Bad Axe and cities to the tip of the thumb could see up to 16 inches of snow.
