The Detroit Red Wings will honor a life-long season ticket holder tonight when they take the ice for the first time at the Little Caesars Arena.

But he won’t be there.

Salvatore Curcuru’s family will be in his place, beaming with pride.

Curcuru had been a ticket holder since the Olympia days, but he died suddenly in 2016.

When Curcuru’s family was contacted to see if they would like to renew his season tickets -- his son Fil Curcuru said it was a no brainer.

“Really the honor goes to my dad who recently passed away," said Fil.

Salvatore Curcuru had been a season ticket holder before Fil was even born, and some of his best memories are going to the games with his father and family.

"They would fake being media and would get their way down on the ice. So we have a few photos of that. Always a jokester, really lighthearted, good person to be around," said Fil.

Fil has vowed to hold on to the season tickets, and now that his father’s gone, it means even more.

"My dad would hold me up one handed and raise me in the air when the Red Wings would score. Definitely life long memories."

The Red Wings honor season ticket holders each game - but this is special for Fil for many reasons including the fact this is the first game at the new arena.
