(WXYZ) — Another freeway shooting happened overnight on southbound I-75 at I-96 in Southwest Detroit.
According to Michigan State Police, a trooper was on patrol on southbound I-75 near Clark around 2 a.m. when they heard gunfire coming from behind the patrol vehicle.
Two SUVs then went past the patrol car in the right lane at a high rate of speed.
Troopers tried to stop the suspect vehicles, but they both fled. One of the vehicles, a Chevy Equinox, lost a tire and stopped at I-75 near Dearborn St.
That Equinox had several bullet holes in the windshield and in the back of the vehicle, police say. The second SUV was last seen on I-75.
Police say the highway is back open. It was closed for several hours early this morning while police investigated.
