Southfield school district warns parents after students exposed to self-harm, suicide games online

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Southfield Public School District is warning parents after some students were exposed to online games about self-harm and suicide.

"It has been brought to the district’s attention that students may have been exposed to self-harm/suicide games," the district said in a statement. "These online games fall under different names and are a social media phenomenon."

In response, the Southfield Public Schools released resources to help keep children safe while online learning.

Below are three apps to monitor your child’s digital world:

  • T-Mobile Digits (Free) – Monitor your child’s text messages
  • Google Family Link (Free) – Set limits on your child’s digital world
  • Bark.us (Cost) – Professional dashboard to manage your child’s world digital world

Additional direct support is also being offered through the school district for students.
