DETROIT (WXYZ) - "I can't tell you how happy we are to finally have some neighbors," said Bradley Dizik, spokesman for The Detroit Masonic Temple.
The Masonic Temple sits in a struggling area now targeted for a massive revitalization project that will extend beyond a new home for the Detroit Red Wings.
A spokesman for the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) tells 7 Action News that the revitalization project would bring new retail, office and living space to the 45-block area that sits north of The Fox Theatre and reaches west up to The Motor City Casino and Hotel.
"The Ilitches have made a catalyzing move for our city and we want to add to that," said DTE Energy CEO Gerry Anderson when talking to 7 Action News about the investment the utility company is making in the neighborhood around their headquarters in downtown Detroit.
Heather Carmona, Chief Administrative Officer with the M-1 Rail Streetcar project, says the non-profit is working with the Ilitch organization to integrate the planned transportation system into a new arena district.
Carmona tells 7 Action News, "With two stations in development in Foxtown, M-1 Rail is excited to see this development underway as part of our collective efforts in creating a vibrant, thriving district for residents and visitors."
