The emaciated puppy may not have been treated well at all, but she still wanted to follow the man who was trying to leave her in a field Thursday morning on Detroit's west side.

A woman living nearby saw the man who eventually put the puppy in a vacant warehouse and closed the door.

He told the woman he didn't want her anymore and left.

Thankfully, the woman called volunteers with Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue and they rushed over to the warehouse on Joy Road near Dexter and found the starving puppy. They named her Joy.

"She's so sweet," said Theresa Sumpter of Detroit Pit Crew who could clearly see that something was wrong with one of Joy's front legs.

Dr. Michelle Koss at Center Line Veterinary Hospital tells 7 Action News that they are consulting other experts to see if Joy's leg can be saved.
